Laryngoscopes

A laryngoscope is used during a laryngoscopy to obtain a view of a part of the larynx (the throat). A laryngoscope can be either flexible or rigid and is equipped with a source of magnification and light, which helps in the examination. The two most basic types of laryngoscopes are curved blades and straight blades. Of the curved blades, the Macintosh is the most commonly used, while the Miller blade is the most used straight blade. One of the newest types of laryngoscopes is the video laryngoscope. Laryngoscopes are used by GPs, throat doctors and similar professionals in doctors’ surgeries, hospitals and clinics.
