Construction Engineering

Construction Engineering deals with the planning, design and construction of structures such as buildings, roads, tunnels, bridges etc. Construction engineers use distinctive methods that cross over between civil engineers and construction managers, however, rather than designing and planning, a construction engineer will understand the intricacies of the planning and design side as well as the building and construction side. A construction engineer normally specialises in one field, for example, buildings – houses or commercial; heavy or highway construction engineers usually manage bridges, roads, airports and water plants and this work can sometimes be quite remote and underground. Mechanical construction engineers manage the installation of heating systems, air vents, air-conditioning and plumbing systems while electrical construction engineers manage and maintain electrical systems. Construction engineers will be employed or involved in new building developments or upgrading roads, bridges or public structures that have decayed through the years. These engineers are vital in the construction and maintenance of new builds and existing structures, as they understand the planning and design controls as well as the physical implementation and construction requirements.
