Slotted Nuts
Slotted nuts are used as safety nuts and have grooved heads which align with holes in a mated bolt so that they accept the insertion of a cotter pin, to lock the nut into place and prevent movement. The nut is secured with a split pin, safety wire or R-clip. Slotted nuts are also known as a castellated nut, castle nut or slotted nut. Slotted nuts are used to make sure that shaft components in automotive assemblies don’t separate. They are also used in other applications that need a guarantee that vibrations will not undo any fixing.
